XELLS OVERVIEW

The imminent threat of global warming and climate change. Temperatures are rising all over the world. Seeking comfort, use of air-conditioning is rising as well. But excessive usage of AC makes people uncomfortable while electricity costs are soaring. Under these circumstances, residential power consumption is expected to increase further.

Panasonic aims to provide new solution

WHAT’S XELLS?

Smart Home Total Solutions

XELLS The Smart Home Total Solution or Home IoT system developed to control the operation of air conditioners and air circulation fans, ensuring optimal airflow within the room to create a natural breeze-like comfort. It also contributes to energy savings.

XELLS integrates and connects various home network devices, such as air conditioners and air circulation fans, which can be controlled via an application on a smartphone or tablet. It can also be connected to lighting systems such as light bulbs, enhancing the convenience and comfort of your home.

Comfort XELLS

XELLS comes with the Comfort of Natural Air Algorithm, which automatically monitors and adjusts the indoor environment to a level suitable for Thais based on the PMV or Comfort Zone. The comfort level, converted from the PMV value, represents a balance of comfortable conditions that also saves energy.

Creating Comfort Environment

Comfort XELLS is one of the sub-functions in the XELLS system that produces dynamic wind flow by controlling air conditioning and ventilation systems to create a comfortable space by controlling the Comfort level based on the PMV index of Thai people.

The appliances for this feature include an air conditioner and circulation fan, installed based on the design of Panasonic software, “Space Design”, to find optimal placement.

The system controls by getting feedback on room environment information then algorithms constantly monitor the indoor environment to maintain comfort levels at more than 90%.

Comfort Zone by PMV Index

Panasonic and Chulalongkorn University collaborated to identify the "Comfort Level" for Thai people, based on the international index "Predicted Mean Vote: PMV." The study revealed that the comfort range for Thai people lies at a temperature of 26.6 °C with a wind speed of 0.25 m/s.(*).

Recognizing the importance of comfort for Thai people, Panasonic has adopted this index as the core of its home environment control system to maintain conditions within the natural "Comfort Zone."

What is PMV?

PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) is a thermal comfort model the examines perceived comfort and the heat balance between people and their immediate environment.

According to ASHRAE standards, thermal comfort is typically achieved at an air temperature of 24-26˚C with relative humidity below 60%. The PMV scale ranges from -3 (cold) to +3 (hot), with the acceptable comfort range set between -0.5 and +0.5, which is the target range for XELLS.

PMV Factors:

External Elements

  •  Air temperature
  • Mean radiant temperature
  • Relative humidity

Human related element

  • Air velocity
  • Clothing insulation (CLO)
  • Metabolic rate (MET)

Comfort with Energy Saving Efficiency

Panasonic tested its indoor comfort control system in real homes and found that it can save over 30% in energy consumption compared to conventional air conditioning usage. (*)

Home IoT Smart Control

XELLS — A Smartphone Application. Home devices can be conveniently controlled via the application, both at home and remotely. Users can schedule air conditioning and lighting or control them on the go—like turning off forgotten lights or cooling the home before arrival. All connected equipment turns off when residents are away and reactivates automatically. Lighting settings can also be tailored to daily routines.

Optimal Operation User Interface : The user interface allows residents to monitor and adjust room comfort levels to meet their individual preferences, initiate rapid cooling, etc.

Optimal Space Design :

Panasonic has developed a proprietary spatial simulation system. The system collects information on the home’s interior and exterior materials, floor plans, directional orientation, and exposure to sunlight. It performs to determine the optimal placement of air-conditioning system components.

We have already completed the system design in collaboration with your house developer and install the facilities by following the location in simulation result.
